Shams Shahabuddin Convalescent Home

Shams Shahabuddin Convalescent Home offers free stay, medical care & expense for the poorest of Mayo Hospital patients-a caring place for the sick & needy

The Lahore Hospital Welfare Society was established in 1936 by a group of Hindu and Muslim ladies of Lahore who started the Convalescent Home for patients of the Mayo Hospital. After partition the Hindu ladies left and the remaining group was joined by some more members under the leadership of Begum Justice Shams Shahabuddin who with untiring efforts laid the foundations of the present Home which was named after her when she passed away.

The Shams Shahabuddin Convalescent Home is a success story of people helping people. It embodies a tradition of service and devotion spanning over a century. It is a worthwhile cause if ever there was one. And – it is right in your back yard.

This 150-bed hospital is situated within the premises of Mayo Hospital, Lahore. Since its birth as a modest 21 – bed facility in 1936, thousands of patients have passed through its doors. Once they are admitted to the Home, their entire stay is absolutely free. The poorest of the poor who come to Mayo Hospital for treatment are referred to the Home. Here they receive free diagnosis, treatment, medicines, nursing care, board and lodging.

Many of our patients are undergoing treatment for cancer, orthopedic issues, cardiac ailments or polio.

The Corbett Foundation (TCF) was established by Mr. Dilip D.Khatau in India as a non-profit, non-government organisation and a charitable trust in 1994.  The foundation is entirely dedicated to the cause of wildlife conservation, environmental awareness, community outreach programmes, tribal welfare and sustainable development initiatives. One of the main areas of conservation that TCF undertakes is in the conservation of the Bengal Tiger.

Voices for Animals is a self – funded home that takes in breeding dogs that have been abandoned by puppy farms. They rely on small adoption fees and donations to keep the dogs. The home was started by Derrick Tan and is run by volunteers who love dogs.

Animal Aid Unlimited was set up to help street animals in India.

In India, although animals are protected by law, but when they have problems, there is little option as help for street animal is not available in most cities without the infrastructure of a hospital and ambulance. Animal Aid Unlimited runs a vital emergency rescue service for street animals – dogs, cows, donkeys, birds, and cats – in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.

WECare Worldwide

WECare Worldwide is a UK registered charity (1162386) set up by veterinary surgeon, Janey Lowes, from the Westway Veterinary Group in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in October 2014. Their mission is to provide veterinary care for less fortunate animals around the world, starting in Sri Lanka.

Currently they have a team of veterinary surgeons and nurses from the UK volunteering in Sri Lanka to provide a high level of veterinary expertise to animals who don’t have access to any other form of healthcare. They provide all their expertise for FREE but still have to cover medicine and food costs.

Painted Dogs or Wild Dogs

Their vision is to create an environment where the painted dogs can thrive. Conservation through Action and Education is their mantra.

African wild dogs, also known as painted dogs, are incredibly social creatures. They live in carefully organized packs in which each dog has a specified job, from hunter to pup baby-sitter. The dogs rely on each other and are one of the only wild species to care for their sick and old.

African wild dogs used to range across Africa, with 500,000 dogs in 39 countries. Impacted by poaching, road kills, and mining and logging that destroy habitat, now only 6,600 dogs are thought to remain. Zimbabwe, where Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) is headquartered, is one of the last strongholds.

Children’s Aid Society is among the oldest philanthropic organisations in Singapore, having been formed in the late 1890s as the St Nicholas Home. Melrose Home provides a supportive environment for children between the ages of 3 to 18 years old, a “home away from home” for children and teenagers who need care and protection in a residential setting. These are children whose parents or family members are unable to provide care or to supervise them.

E2stem

E2STEM Education Ltd, Singapore was founded in 2016 by Dr Seet Ai Mee, former Minister of State for Education, Singapore. E2STEM, a techno-New Generation School (NGS) under the MOEYS education reform agenda, was provided school  facilities at the Preah Yukunthor High School, Phnom Penh. E2STEM aims to train young Cambodians to be professionals who will in turn help to transform Cambodia into a developed nation.  E2Stem will be running a hybrid programme, comprising 3 years of senior high school (Grades 10-12) conducted in Khmer (following the Cambodia national school curriculum), followed by 2 years of an  internationally recognised diploma in engineering/technology conducted in English.

EDIS Cares

EDIS Cares is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Economic Development Innovations Singapore Pte Ltd (EDIS). This effort began in 2014 in response to EDIS Chairman Mr Philip Yeo’s desire to create opportunities for underprivileged children to fulfil their full potential, and to do so by having adult volunteers provide mentorship for an extended period.

In the past 5 years, EDIS Cares has impacted over 400 children in partnership with 9 charities, and through close to 350 volunteers.
